In late November, junior, Alli Burst, entered the College of Mount St. Joseph’s Selection 2013 art exhibition/scholarship opportunity.  The exhibition this year included: 43 schools, 64 teachers and 121 students.  Out of the 121 students, Alli Burst was selected for the junior, 4-year renewable $2000.00 scholarship in the area of Art Education!  Only 2 junior scholarships were awarded.  A panel of 8 judges,(professors) selected the scholarship winners based on: GPA/ transcript, artist statement, letter of recommendation and her work of art entered into the exhibition.

Congratulations to Cameron Suter and Josh Kells on their recent Scholarship Awards.  Cameron Suter was awarded the Wolfstein Freshman Scholarship at the College of D.A.A.P. at U.C. and Josh Kells was awarded a $40,000 Portfolio Scholarship to the Art Academy of Cincinnati!

The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, now in its forty-fourth year, is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of our talented young people in the state of Ohio. The exhibition is open to all of Ohio’s 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the State of Ohio Department of Education. Our purpose is to provide all budding young artists of the state with opportunities to advance their talent, whether that be through scholarships or simply experiencing the process of entering their work in a competition. The exhibition is a valuable incentive for our young people; it encourages an appreciation for the arts throughout Ohio and reflects the fine quality of art instruction and talent which exist in our state.

The process of selecting artworks for the state exhibition begins on a regional level. The state is divided into 15 regional locations, with high school students in each region invited to enter work in that regional judging. Each region has a designated Regional Director, who is responsible for choosing the judges for his or her region and arranging specifics of the event.

The state judging takes place in Columbus; however, the judges for this level of competition are chosen from all over the country and are generally professional artists, college level instructors, or both.

From the 12,000 regional entries from the 15 regions, approximately 2,500 are selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then select 300 for the actual exhibition, with 25 of the 300 chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence. Scholarships are offered to seniors by over 30 universities and colleges of art. The selection of students to be offered scholarships is left strictly up to those institutions who offer them.

The Art Institute of Ohio-Cincinnati, will host its 3^rd Annual National Art Teachers Appreciation Show (“NATAS”) Gallery Exhibit March 3^rd –March 31^st 2014, featuring the works of high school arts and media instructors in Cincinnati and surrounding counties.

The purpose of this Exhibit is two-fold – one, to provide art and media teachers with the opportunity to display their personal works of creative expression on our campus, and two, to honor their dedication to their students as they prepare them for what hopes to be a promising future.

A reception will be held on March 13^th at 5:00 pm to honor our exhibitors.  Come celebrate the work of Jamie Schorsch and Bridget Dignan-Cummins and the dedication and commitment each extends to their students throughout the year.
