Prepping for Veteren’s Day

On Thursday, November 1st, Art Club met after school to help with the painting of 150 patriotic signs for the upcoming Veteran’s Day assembly at the high school.  Students enrolled in the art classes will be working throughout the week in their free time to finish the signs that will be held up during the assembly as a part of our token of thanks to the Veteren’s who have served our country.

It was impressive to so many students eager to get involved with this activity and pay tribute to all the local Veteran’s in our community.

Collaborative Carvings

On Thursday, October 18, Art Club got together after school to celebrate the Halloween spirit by creating over 20 Jack-O-lanterns.  Here are just a few of the participants with some of the pumpkins put on display that week.

OHHS Art Teacher, Sandy Federman, in the news!

Sandy Federman was interviewed by Chanel 5 recently regarding her rain barrel creation.  The rain barrel was painted for the Regional Storm Water Collaborative / Water and soil Conservation. “Saving Rain for A sunny Day”. Ms. Federman was invited to participate in the 1st phase of the project.  The barrels will be auctioned off in April at a Fundraiser Gala at the  Cincinnati Zoo.  Ms. Federman will also be working with her Mixed Media and Painting students on the project. Students will work in groups, research an artist, and create a proposal and drawing.  The proposals will then be submitted to the Water Collaborative.

Sandy Federman’s design included acrylic paint and glass at the center of the barrel.

ArtCars 2012

Couldn’t make it to Clifton to see the ArtCars being created?  Here are some pictures of the event in progress.  OHHS Art Teacher Jamie Schorsch led a team, which included current art student Rupie Spraul ’14 and art alumni Alex Hand ’09, in the recreation of Kandinsky’s “Improvisation Klamm” on a Honda Odyssey.  OHHS Art substitute, and former student teacher, Paul Loehle led a team in the recreation of Georgia O’Keefe’s “Oriental Poppies” on a BMW.
