Summer 2018 “Celebrating Art” Students Selected to be Published!

“Celebrating Art” is devoted to the promotion and appreciation of student art. The intent of their student art contest is to motivate student artists. The top entries are published in an anthology that will record the creative works of today’s student artists.

Students recently submitted work and 30 OHHS Art and Design were invited to be published in the Summer 2018 “Celebrating Art”!  Only the best art is selected to be included in the full-color hardbound art book, “Celebrating Art”. Additionally, final judging for “Top Ten Artist” and “High Merit Artist” awards will be completed and announced soon. The following students should feel honored. This is not a contest where every entry is invited to be published and is a highly selective competition. Thousands of entries were not invited to be published. Being published represents a lot of talent, hard work, and dedication from students.

OHHS Art and Design Observes International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21st. Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

OHHS Art and Design is observing the International Day of Peace this year with a display of the student works recently displayed in the SOS Art Exhibition at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. SOS Art Cincinnati sponsors a yearly SOS Exhibition and Event of creative expressions for peace and justice. Students exhibited their works alongside many established artists from around the globe, all of whom addressed issues related to peace and justice. This year, OHHS Art and Design students from: Groh’s Studio Art AP Photography classes; Schorsch’s Drawing and Printmaking, Painting and Mixed Media, and Studio Art AP classes; Kopf’s Painting and Mixed Media and Digital Art Foundations, Gibson’s Photoshop and Illustrator, and Ambs’ Art Foundations classes, participated in the event in June at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.

Works from the SOS Art Exhibition will be on display in the front lobby of OHHS through the month of September in honor of Peace Day.

OHHS Art and Design Teacher Selected as Semi-Finalist for BLDG/Kroger Commission

Gallery and Design Studio BLDG, in partnership with the Kroger Company, is commissioning a professional artist to create interior artwork for the new Kroger store in Colerain Township. The artwork will be prominently displayed inside the store as part of the Kroger Company’s commitment to involving artists in beautifying new stores throughout the nation. The artwork will celebrate the spirit of the community and the unique identity of the neighborhood and its surroundings.

The call to artists for the commission was open to artists living in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region. Three artists were selected as Semi-Finalists for the commission and invited to submit design proposals, including OHHS Art and Design teacher Jamie Schorsch! Over the past few weeks, Ms. Schorsch has been researching and working to develop concepts and designed three different compositions for the commission. The Finalist for the commission will be selected sometime next week.
