Congratulations to OHHS senior Joey Chessey on being awarded Funke Fired Arts Summer Scholarship. Joey is the sole recipient of this award and will get to take summer classes at Funke Fired Arts free of charge; allowing him to continue to refine his craft as a local Ceramicist.
Congratulations to Josh Kells and Cameron Suter for representing Oak Hills High School as finalists in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition! And a special congratulations to Cameron Suter who’s work was selected for display at the U.S. Captiol in Washington D.C. for the next year! Cameron will be flown out for a special reception in June for the hanging of the work.
“An Artistic Discovery,” a nationwide high school visual art competition sponsored by the Congressional Institute, aims to showcase the artistic talents of high school students. This annual competition is open to students in grades 9-12 who are residents of Ohio’s First Congressional District. All suitable artwork will be displayed for two weeks in May at the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal and all applicants will be invited to attend an awards reception to announce the winners.
First Place: Artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol, along with other pieces from students around the country, for one year.
Second Place: Artwork will hang in Congressman Chabot’s Washington, D.C. office for one year.
Top Hamilton County student: Artwork will hang in Congressman Chabot’s Cincinnati office for one year.
Top Warren County student: Artwork will hang in Congressman Chabot’s Warren County office for one year.
This year 8 schools participated and 130 pieces of artwork were submitted.
The online voted started yesterday. You, the students and their family will be able to vote for their favorite piece online at: http://chabot.house.gov. Voting will be open until Friday, April 11th at 5:00pm.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
