The “Artists of Tomorrow, Today” Studio Art AP exhibition presents a selection of works from the Studio Art AP Portfolios created by the Oak Hills High School students enrolled in Studio Art AP 2D Design, 2D Design: Photography, 3D Design, and Drawing. The pieces displayed were selected from the Selected Works and Sustained Investigation sections of the portfolio submissions and exemplify the extremely high level of rigor, commitment, and accomplishment that Studio Art AP students can achieve. The exhibition is organized annually as part of a celebration of Studio Art AP student work and recognition of student accomplishments throughout the academic year. The exhibition also serves to inform and expose students, teachers, parents, and members of the community to the Studio Art AP program and the diverse subjects, styles, media, techniques, and expressions that students choose to pursue.

Oak Hills High School Junior and Senior students, enrolled in Jamie Schorsch’s Studio Art AP Drawing and 2D Design classes, Steve Groh’s Studio Art AP 2D Design: Photography class, and Bridget Dignan-Cummins’ Studio Art AP 3D Design class, are represented in the exhibition.

Included in this year’s virtual exhibition and recognition ceremony are Senior Awards and Scholarships. Join us here virtually in celebrating the accomplishments of the Studio Art AP students at Oak Hills High School.

Studio Art AP Virtual Exhibition and Recognition Ceremony

This year’s state-level of judging for The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition was delayed, but has finally taken place!. The Exhibition is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of our talented young people in the state of Ohio. The exhibition is open to all of Ohio’s 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the State of Ohio Department of Education. The exhibition is a valuable incentive for our young people; it encourages an appreciation for the arts throughout Ohio and reflects the fine quality of art instruction and talent which exist in our state.

The process of selecting artworks for the state exhibition begins on a regional level. The state is divided into 15 regional locations, with high school students in each region invited to enter work in that regional judging. Each region has a designated Regional Director, who is responsible for choosing the judges for his or her region and arranging specifics of the event.

The state judging takes place in Columbus; however, the judges for this level of competition are chosen from all over the country and are generally professional artists, college-level instructors, or both.

From the 11,500 regional entries from the 15 regions, approximately 2,500 are selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then selected 300 for the actual exhibition, with 25 of the 300 chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence. Scholarships are offered to seniors by over 30 universities and colleges of art.

Each year The Cincinnati Art Museum engages young artists to display their artwork at our 10×10 Teen Art Expo.

Students from the OHHS National Art Honor Society and Ms. Schorsch’s Drawing and Printmaking, and Studio Art AP Drawing classes will be exhibiting work at the Cincinnati Art Museum! The Cincinnati Art Museum education staff worked with a committee of teen art enthusiasts to curate an exhibition of artworks addressing the theme of “Dreams”. Artists were invited to interpret and use their creative voice to address this theme in the media of their choice. The only parameter was that works submitted had to be 2-Dimensional and only 10 inches by 10 inches.

Former OHLSD art teacher, Stacie Kearns, is currently working on a project to help show our health care workers some love called “Hearts for Hope”. Stacie’s mission as an artist is to spread LOVE, JOY, HOPE, and HEALING through the power of art and she is encouraging people to create a heart with the word hope on it and share it. Her goal is to put them all into a collaborative video to share with hospitals and health care workers and she is reaching out to art teachers and teachers to assign this project with their students and be in charge of compiling their heart art into a single image/images that could be turned into a video.

Some of the students at Oak Hills High School and Oakdale Elementary have been busy creating works to contribute to the cause! Spread the word! Let’s make a difference! #hearts4hope

“Celebrating Art” is devoted to the promotion and appreciation of student art. The intent of their student art contest is to motivate student artists. The top entries are published in an anthology that will record the creative works of today’s student artists.

Students recently submitted work and 36 OHHS Art and Design were invited to be published in the Spring 2020 “Celebrating Art”!  Only the best art is selected to be included in the full-color hardbound art book, “Celebrating Art”. Additionally, final judging for “Top Ten Artist” and “High Merit Artist” awards will be completed and announced soon. The following students should feel honored. This is not a contest where every entry is invited to be published and is a highly selective competition. Thousands of entries were not invited to be published. Being published represents a lot of talent, hard work, and dedication from students.
