OHHS Art and Design and USA Miniprints for Peace and Justice 2024

Drawing and Printmaking students recently created monotype gelli plate prints for the 4th annual challenge and exhibit of Miniprints for Peace and Justice by American Artists and Artists living in the USA, launched by SOS ART in 2020. Students researched the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights and selected an Article for their inspiration in voicing their hopes and concerns related to issues of peace and justice.

Among the exhibiting artists are 9 Drawing and Printmaking students, along with their teacher Jamie Schorsch. All Miniprints are “6 x ”6 and for sale with proceeds going to both the artists and SOS Art.

You can view images and artist statements of OHHS Art and Design students exhibiting prints below!

2024 OHHS Permanent Art Collection Winners Announced!

Lily Clark and Kaylyn Schirmer are the class of 2024 Permanent Art Collection winners and their work is now a part of a continuing tradition of artistic excellence at Oak Hills.

The Senior Permanent Art Collection started over 30 years ago when the Student Council decided to enrich the daily experience of Oak Hills High School students by hanging art posters throughout the building. This sparked a partnership between the Art & Design Department and Student Council- the creation of a Permanent Student Art Collection competition. The competition was established for seniors who have enrolled in any art and design course during their time at Oak Hills High School. Students could submit up to 2 original artworks to be juried, with the chosen works to be professionally framed and presented to our school district at awards night.

These original artworks have been framed by Picture Frame Co. and will be added to the growing collection of over 150 artworks prominently displayed throughout Oak Hills High School and District Office.

OHHS Art and Design Students Selected for the 2024 OAEA Emerging Artist Exhibition

The OAEA (Ohio Art Education Association) High School Show showcases Ohio’s Emerging Artists’ artistic efforts. The Emerging Artist show is dedicated to showcasing the artistic efforts of students who have only had the chance to take one or two art classes in high school. The competitive professional forum is intended to prepare young artists for their creative future in college or in an art career. This showcase is designed to inspire new artists to excel in the areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, computer art, photography, and printmaking. Everyone involved should be proud of the students who inspire, creative thinking, problem-solving, and skillful techniques.

This year’s exhibition showcases over 138 works of art by students in grades nine through eleven from across the state. The work will be on display at the Columbus College of Art and Design in June!

Congratulations to the following students on being selected to exhibit at this year’s Emerging Artist exhibition.

Spring 2024 “Celebrating Art” OHHS Art and Design Students to Be Published

“Celebrating Art” is devoted to the promotion and appreciation of student art. The intent of their student art contest is to motivate student artists. The top entries are published in an anthology that will record the creative works of today’s student artists.

Students recently submitted work and 91 OHHS Art and Design students were invited to be published in the Spring 2024 “Celebrating Art”!  Only the best art is selected to be included in the full-color hardbound art book, “Celebrating Art”. Additionally, final judging for the “Top Ten Artist” and “High Merit Artist” awards will be completed and announced soon. The following students should feel honored. This is not a contest where every entry is invited to be published and is a highly selective competition. Thousands of entries were not invited to be published. Being published represents a lot of talent, hard work, and dedication from students.

2024 Congressional Art Competition: District 8

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. This is a prestigious competition. The winning artwork will represent the 8th Congressional District of Ohio in Washington, D.C., by being displayed in the U.S. Capitol as part of a year-long exhibit. The winning artist receives a free round-trip airfare for the national winners’ reception in Washington, D.C. Other winners’ pieces will be showcased at Warren Davidson’s Washington, DC, and district offices for the next year.

This year, Spooky Nook Sports hosted the exhibition of works submitted by students in schools throughout District 8. Congratulations to this year’s OHHS Art and Design students who reside in District 8 who submitted work for this year’s exhibition and competition!
