Congratulations to Rylan Hixson on earning a National American Visions Medal from the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition! Earlier this year, at the regional level, Rylan earned a Gold Key and was an American Visions Award nominee for the same piece, “Cross Section”. Five works, from across all categories and grades, are selected from those earning Gold Keys as the “Best of Show” for each local program. As an added bonus, Rylan’s artwork has also been selected to be displayed as a part of the National Scholastic Art Exhibition in New York City.

I love you, Rylan Mason Hixson, not because of all the talents you have been given but because of the fine young man you have always been. I admire you and respect you and know God is using you for his glory. He has magnificent plans for you-I think I’ve known this since you were born. I am always so proud of your accomplishments and this award for your amazing artwork is awesome. Your mother has written so eloquently of the significance of your work and I agree with all she’s said. “Heartwork” says in paint what poets say in words.
Congratulations to my super kind hearted, hard working, and amazingly gifted son. I am so proud of your many accomplishments, but it is who you are inside…your boundless compassion and strength of character that makes it a true honor to have been chosen to be your momma. It is no coincidence that this beautiful piece of artwork (“heartwork”) is so powerfully moving because you have captured the profound beauty of what is beneath the surface, that the essence of who we are is not what can be seen, but a light that shines from within! And don’t we all need to be reminded of that? I love you so much, Rylan Hixson, right down to your “bones.”
